The Grand Massif Ski Area

The Grand Massif includes Flaine, the well known and either loved or hated concrete village (a French architectural heritage site).

Morillon (home of the Olympic Gold medallist down-hiller, Anthoine Deneriez) and Samoens, both superb ski areas, are traditional Alpine villages now benefiting from greatly improved modern snow making machines and high speed lift systems.

The charmingly village of Sixt is reached via the 20 kilometre Cascade run from Flaine. You can always try the wonderful cooking at the Gites de Gers half way down or the old part of Sixt village just a short tow up from the bus stop where a free navette will take you to Samoens or Morillon to return to Carroz.

However our own village of Les Carroz offers more than enough skiing for any level of skier from challenging off-piste to cruising blue runs and all on your doorstep. For those who haven't had enough by 5pm there is floodlit skiing on the stadium several nights a week in school holidays and there is a weekly torchlight descent... who knows you may be invited to join in the descent!

For cross country skiers there are many exciting trails throughout the Grand Massif.

For those who like to explore different ski areas Chamonix , Megeve and Morzine/Avoriaz are all an hour by car.

Apres Ski

Les Carroz is a traditional old Alpine village that opened as a ski resort in 1933. There are many shops and boutiques. Several quality restaurants and bars, good butchers and of course a couple of mini-markets. There is an open air market every Tuesday morning. Both Cluses and Sallanches have hypermarkets with larger weekly open air markets.

Apres ski activities include ice skating, cinema, snow walks to mountain dinner venues (including a teepee), dog sledging, snow scooters and para-gliding. Not forgetting the nightly activities organised on the village square by the Office du Tourisme. They put up information daily - which includes a 3 day "meteo" forecast - and there is a weekly news sheet, available in English.

Hopefully none of our guests will need it but there is a first class medical centre.

Radio 74 on 88.80 FM is a local Christian broadcasting station offering a good and reliable meteo forecast as well as world news. Laurie has been heard to argue with the radio broadcast regarding theology!

How To Find Us

Les Carroz is 20 minutes from Junction 19 on the Motorway (A40), signposted to Les Carroz and Flaine. Driving up the mountain through the main village of Les Carroz , Le Palane is opposite (so on the left going up the hill) the big snow clearing station.

We are some 75 yards off the main road, our drive is normally well cleared of deep snow (we have an arrangement with a local contractor). Just after our letter box is our parking area enough for 3/4 cars whilst leaving the access drive clear for any more snow clearing that may be necessary during your stay. (The contractor does use BIG machines!)
